Virtual Reality has carved a name for itself in the gaming industry, creating immersive visuals for maniacal gamers who want to take gaming to the next level. But then there's also IMAX -- the larger-than-life movie experience that decided to join the ranks of VR with an aim to create a futuristic partnership of intense fun. The result is what's called the IMAX VR Experience, a VR experience that's "light years ahead of anything else available."
Anyone else who had been to an IMAX theatre knows how intense the experience is. You go head-on with an impossibly huge screen -- and the sound emanating from it is enough to cause your heart to defibrillate. The lovechild of IMAX and VR is insanely immersive visuals and 360 sound that will take viewers into virtual worlds that seem all too realistic, you won't believe they're happening.
When you sign up for the IMAX VR Experience, you are ushered into the VR area called a pod, will be made to wear a headset -- either a STARVR or an HTC Vive -- and enter a new world. VRHeads says that viewers get to choose from among the most recognizable titles, such as the "John Wick" chronicles, "Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine," "Eagle Flight," "The Walk" among many others.
If you live in Los Angeles or may be visiting some time, you're in luck. The only IMAX Experience theatre in the world resides in the City of Angels, on Fairfax Avenue, across from the Grove. To those who can't make it, though, don't fret just yet. IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond has confirmed that five more locations will debut worldwide in 2017, in his interview with Fortune.
