"Destiny 2" the sequel of Activision's hit first-person action shooter RPG with the same title will be launched fall of 2017. The game publisher has announced the target "Destiny 2" release date during its 2016 fourth quarter earnings report.
Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg has confirmed that the "Destiny" sequel will still be released this 2017. According to Hirshberg, the development of "Destiny 2" is still within the time frame to meet the target fall 2017 release date.
The Activision CEO also hinted the company's plans to make a big "Destiny 2" reveal. The sequel to Activision's hit action RPG is said to be being developed by the original game's developers Bungie and High Moon Studios with the addition of Vicarious Visions
According to Kotaku, there is a huge pressure to release "Destiny 2" this year. The report suggests that if Bungie fails to release the "Destiny" sequel this year, Activision will be awarded a large chunk of the game developer's stock. This means Bungie is under heavy pressure to deliver the game this year.
The employees of Bungie also have a stock vesting schedule that is based on the company's game releases. The major incentives that are expected to be received if the 2017 "Destiny 2" release date is met are enough motivation for Bungie employees to meet the target.
Though the game developer would like to add more content to the video game, the arrangement with Activision may not permit them to do so. More content means more time for development and the 2017 release date window is getting slimmer by the day.
The report also revealed that "Destiny 2" PC version will also be launched. The PC version will reportedly be a complete overhaul. As such, "Destiny 1" players may not be able to bring their gears into the game's sequel. The target "Destiny 2" release date is scheduled in the fall of 2017.
