AT&T is doing its best to encourage cable owners to buy in their streaming service. Apparently, they are targeting "Game of Thrones" and "Veep" fans with a new DirecTV promotion.

According to CNET, DirecTV Now is streaming HBO for free. The one-year free subscription does come with a BUT, owners must buy their most expensive TV bundles.

The promotion started on Monday (March 20) and will end on March 30. It will deliver "Veep" fans a year of free access to HBO if you subscribe to the $60 Go Big package for 100-channels. It's will also be available for the 120-channel Gotta Have it plan for $70 a month.

Lower DirecTV subscriptions do allow owners to have HBO, but they have to pay an additional $5. The deal is only available for higher-tier plans, or those opting for more cable channels. The cable TV streaming service also offers 60-channels for $35 and 80-channels for $50 a month.

AT&T offered a similar promotion earlier this month to existing DirecTV subscribers. The company also offered a free Apple TV for anyone who prepays for three months of the service. The offer will end on March 30.

DirecTV Now launched on November 30 last year under AT&T. The US carrier is aiming to transform itself into a multi-faceted service company. The second largest US wireless provider also announced plans to buy Time Warner.

Despite a bad start on November, DirecTV Now is gaining notoriety among subscribers. It is fast becoming the go-to service for many consumers that wish to ditch traditional cable.

AT&T managed to sign 200,000 customers on its launch. Primarily because of the introductory offer of 100 channels for $35 a month. The company is trying to avoid many of its subscribers from opting out of the service with new gimmicks.
