Since its release, Pokémon GO has regularly added Legendary and Mythical Pokémon to the game yet certain iconic characters are still missing. Volcanion is the only Mythical Pokémon in the Fire and Water type mix that players never see.

With Niantic's pattern of releasing big stuff tied up in bigger Pokémon events, it could be the year 2025 that brings Volcanion long overdue in the mobile game.

Kalos Mythicals: Why Is Volcanion Still Missing?

The Kalos region, released in Pokémon X and Y, contains three mythical Pokémon: Diancie, Hoopa, and Volcanion. Although Diancie and Hoopa have appeared in Pokémon GO in grand events, Volcanion has yet to be seen.

Diancie first appeared at Pokémon GO Fest 2023 and became a globally available Pokémon with the Glitz and Glam Special Research in 2024.

Hoopa became the mascot for Season of Mischief, with two variants, Confined and Unbound, during the long two-part event in 2021. It remains unknown whether Volcanion has ever had its special moment in Pokémon GO, further adding to speculations on this issue.

Perhaps Niantic has just postponed Volcanion's release to give them more priority to newer Legendary and Mythical Pokémon from Galar and Paldea, according to GameRant. The timing really fits right now, though, since Volcanion is the last missing Mythical in Kalos.

Pokémon Legends Z-A Connection?

The release of Pokémon Legends Z-A is scheduled for 2025. Considering this would be the very first time, it is more than apt to introduce Volcanion in Pokémon GO. Unlike Pokémon Legends Arceus, with its side quests for Legendary Pokémon Darkrai and Shaymin, Legends Z-A will draw more attention to other icons from the Kalos region rather than only to the title character Zygarde.

Legends lore describes this to be an unapproachable Pokémon that can blow away mountains with steam. This special feature of blowing away mountains probably could factor into the storyline of the game, involving the reviving of Lumiose City, which is hinted at in a Legends Z-A trailer.

Players may investigate on a difficult quest to find Volcanion in its far-off mountain home and act out its mythos in an immersive fashion.

How Volcanion May Enter Pokémon GO

Pokémon GO can introduce Volcanion as the centerpiece of a themed event to celebrate Legends Z-A. It could be the reward for completing Special Research tasks, just like in previous releases such as Hoopa and Diancie.

The event might also feature an incentive for enthusiasts of Zygarde. Collecting Zygarde Cells has proven to be so arduous in Pokémon GO that an event that temporarily expedites the process would have the added effect of giving something more to play with. This dual thrust would seamlessly bring the mobile game together with Legends Z-A while engaging fans.

New Chapter for Pokémon GO

This would not only fill a gap but also an opportunity to celebrate much of the great lore of the franchise and get connected with fans on all platforms. The closer it gets to the release date of Pokémon Legends Z-A, the more hope is directed at players waiting for the issuance of this year 2025, marking the year Volcanion finally puts it all on the line.

Will Volcanion join the ranks of Pokémon GO's most celebrated additions? Only time will tell, but all signs point to an exciting year ahead for trainers worldwide.
