The world of Genshin Impact is about to expand once more with the release of a new sub-region in Update 5.5. It has been revealed through leaks that the addition would be The Great Volcano of Tollan, a long-awaited area in the Pyro-themed nation of Natlan.

This update should bring fans the new adventures, challenges, and lore that they have all been anticipating since last year.

New Sub-Region Full of Lore and Danger

As tipster @hxg_diluc wrote on X, the Great Volcano of Tollan, which lies southwest of Natlan, is a location Genshin Impact has used its storyline to give importance to by filling it with history and danger.

Official lore reveals that the volcano was once an abode to ancient dragons and possessed a majestic palace beneath its magma. When the dragon civilization fell, the Abyss invaded the place, adding an aura of mystery and danger for the players to delve into.

The addition of Tollan looks like bread and butter with Natlan's fiery identity. Genshin Impact players who love Pyro heroes might know a thing or two about the nation's rich mythology.

Genshin Impact Update 5.5: What to Expect

Genshin Impact leaker hxg_diluc revealed that the Great Volcano of Tollan will debut in Update 5.5. This sub-region promises to expand Natlan's map and offer fresh quests and exploration opportunities.

One of the exciting features of the update could be the inclusion of the Collective of Plenty, the sixth and final tribe of Natlan.

The players have already encountered five tribes, each tied to unique Saurians, with the Electro tribe being the only one missing. Fans speculate that the Collective of Plenty might bring crazy mechanics we haven't seen before.

Why the Delay?

While some were hoping to see the volcano sooner, its slowed release may still be directly tied to Genshin Impact's narrative roadmap, GameRant reports. Version 5.4 should return to focus significantly on Inazuma, thanks in part to the newly announced character Mizuki being a 5-star there.

The current Version 5.3 takes up a bit of time with revisiting Liyue for the annual Lantern Rite Festival; there isn't likely much time to be afforded towards new Natlan content soon.

Hints at New Characters

Update 5.5 might introduce new characters: Ifa and Iansan. Their abilities and backgrounds are unknown, but their connection to Natlan does bring both relief and pleasure to fans.

Expectation of at least one Pyro hero, because all big updates are so far introducing new characters, considering the arrival of the volcanic region.

This comes after the reveal of The Great Volcano of Tollan in the Genshin Impact community, which has garnered a wide range of responses from players, with many perceiving this is overdue, as Natlan represents fire and flames.

In any case, some fans hypothesize that the debut of the volcano is being used to set up HoYoverse for future story arcs involving the Abyss or those mysterious dragons rumored in the lore.

If all the information is correct, most likely, we could see the update 5.5 in late March.
