Massive announcements were made during the last Nintendo Direct event, which focused significantly on the upcoming Switch 2, but there was another standout experience introduced by the company in the form of a demo.
The Switch 2 Welcome Tour is a demo that will be available alongside the new console's launch, and it promises to help users get to know their new gaming device at a deeper level.
However, it is facing massive backlash now because it would not be a free demo available with the console upon launch as Nintendo will ask for a certain fee to access the experience come its availability.
Nintendo Switch 2's Welcome Tour Demo Is Sold Separately
After the April Direct event, the Big Red gaming company from Kyoto has hosted a separate Nintendo Treehouse event, which shared a deep dive into the Switch 2's upcoming "Welcome Tour" launch title. However, one of the worst nightmares of fans have been confirmed by Nintendo in its post on X, which claimed that the Welcome Tour would be a "paid downloadable launch title."
The Welcome Tour is Nintendo's dedicated demonstration experience for new players who will own the Switch 2 console, particularly as it will feature massive changes to the device since the original release.
According to Nintendo of America, the Welcome Tour will feature technological demonstrations, mini-games, quizzes and more, which are all about the Switch 2.
The entire Welcome Tour's goal is to familiarize new console owners with what the Switch 2 has to offer, from its potential gaming experiences down to the technical capabilities of the new console. Those who will buy the experience would be thrust into an RPG isometric experience where they get to explore the ins and outs of the new gaming device.
Fans Are Calling Out Nintendo For Paid Switch 2 Demo
Nintendo of America's post on X garnered a handful of negative reactions to their announcement that it will be a paid experience.
A user claimed that Nintendo followed the footsteps of Sony with the PlayStation 5's free "Astrobot" experience, but the company's version of it, the Welcome Tour, is charging players instead.
That being said, Sony only offered a six-hour free demo of "Astro's Playroom" for players to learn more about the new DualSense controller, but its full game version required a purchase, which fans also called out.
Would You Be Willing to Buy the Welcome Tour?
Nintendo is now receiving backlash for charging a fee to get the Welcome Tour demo for the Switch 2, and some users claimed that they would rather wait for a YouTuber or content creator to play it instead of buying it for themselves. This also goes alongside the more expensive Switch 2 games that range from $80 to a possible $100.
That being said, Nintendo touts this new demo as an essential experience to fully exploring what Switch 2 has to offer and learn more about its functions.
