Oculus Takes A Bold Step By Releasing 'Dear Angelica'
Although it appears like a step-back to use only drawings to create an animated style short film, it is indeed a commendable step by oculus. While the whole world is dominated by 3D, "Dear Angelica" will be a step ahead in showing comics as reality. The film will be available for free to all Oculus Rift owners at the Sundance Film Festival 2017.
'Dear Angelica'- A Moving Love And Grief Story
The film which was screened at the Sundance Film Festival 2017 is about a young girl's love and grief for her deceased mother. Mae Whitman voices the young girl and her diseased 'film star' mother by Geena Davis. The girl copes with the loss by going back to the happy memories of her mother in her films. The film appears like an 'interactive motion comic' reports Engadget.
Oculus Used A New VR Drawing Tool- Quill
Reports also reveal that the film could be a lot to take at a time and it feels like the viewer loses track of all the details that is being presented. According to The Verge, Oculus came up with a dedicated VR drawing tool named Quill VR. The Art Director of the film Wesley Allsbrook along with the exceptional sound and design and the voice over by Whitman has made the short-film feel like a Hollywood hit.
The short, bittersweet animated narrative expresses the power of Art and Fiction by presenting a variety of emotions through a realistic experience. The 12-minute short film is also seen as a new approach to painting as well as the comic literature. Indeed VR has given a step ahead for the art of storytelling. The Sundance Film Festival is fro January 19, 2017, to January 29, 2017.
