The age-old competition between Samsung and Apple continues to fire up with the recently released S8 duo and the latter is set to reveal a new device on its annual launch. The South Korean company, also confirmed that later this year, a new flagship will be coming out under its roof.

Last week, Samsung stated its plans of launching a new flagship phone in the second half of 2017. This resulted to some speculations that the company might have a substitute for the last year’s unfortunate Galaxy Note 7, which was recalled. A research manager for client devices at IDC Asia/Pacific, Kiranjeet Kaur, said that the Korean tech giant announced that during the first half of 2017, they will release an S series phone and in the second half, an addition to the Note series. According to GSM Arena, the only unsure, if the company is referring to a next Note or if they create a new series to unlink it to Note 7’s tragedy.

A spokesperson from Samsung answered that the company has no comment regarding the future product plan. On the other hand, the statement of the company’s mobile president, DJ Koh, has been quoted in several write ups already. Koh said that Samsung fans must wait for a better, safer and very innovative Note 8 and this will be launch soon.

As Samsung was warned by competition getting tougher in the mobile market, most probably, the launch of Note 8 will be pushed through this year. Samsung said it is striving to maintain their profitability, not only for their high-end devices but also for its mid-range and low-end phone segments as well, says PC World.

The IT and Mobile Communications division of Samsung reported last week that the company has dropped its revenue and profits the first three months of 2017, says NDTV. This is due to the prices adjustments that they did to the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. 15 percent was lost in the division’s revenue. In the first quarter last year, it had a 27.6 trillion won revenue but this year it dropped to 23.5 trillion won.

The operating profit of the company also dropped by 47 percent, which is about 4 trillion won. With the impending launch of a new iPhone for its 10th anniversary, which is rumored to come with superb specs and features, Samsung can’t just sit back and relax if they still want to be under the spotlight.
