Vivo is on a roll! The Chinese handset maker launched its V5 smartphone with a mammoth 20MP selfie camera in 2016, followed by V5 Plus, which sported great front camera system and an iPhone-like cosmetic appearance earlier this year. Vivo's latest smartphone, the V5s was unveiled on Thursday, April 27. Here's everything you need to know about the recently debuted device.

Vivo V5s Price & Availability

Selfie addicts looking to get their hands on the Vivo V5s selfie smartphone have to shell out INR 18,990, which converts to about $296. The V5s pre-order kicked off Thursday, April 27 itself with the first sale scheduled for May 6. Matte Black Vivo V5s model will be available on May 6, while the other color variant i.e. Crown Gold will be available starting May 20.

Vivo V5s Specifications & Features

The Vivo V5s is a dual-SIM (Micro+Nano) smartphone running the older Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Funtouch OS 3.0 on top. Gadgets 360 deem it as a better-spec'd version of the previously launched Vivo V5 smartphone.

The device's home button integrates a fingerprint sensor. The V5s features a 5.5-inch HD IPS display wth 720x1280 pixels resolution, a pixel density of 267ppi (pixel per inch), Gorilla Glass protection and 2.5D Curved Glass. Moreover, it boasts metal construction with the antenna gaps at the back of the phone expanding towards the device's top and bottom edges, according to TheIndianExpress.

A 1.5GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6750 SoC fires up the Vivo V5s, which packs 4GB of RAM under the hood. The device sports a 20MP front shooter just like its precursor, the Vivo V5. Furthermore, its front camera features a 'moonlight flash' (considerably different from the usual LED flash or a screen flash), which constantly emits a ray of diffused light to highlight a user's face.

As far as taking selfies is concerned, IndiaToday's Saurabh Singh claims the V5s is not disappointing at all. The phone is perfect for taking a crisp and detailed selfie, but particularly in ideal lighting conditions; in other words, in a warm, sunny setting. Aside from that, the camera's Face Beauty shooting mode is quite useful features especially for those conscious about their acne, and black spots.

But the camera is not spared from flaws. While using the camera indoors under artificial lighting, Singh noticed ample loss in detail. As if that weren't enough, he realized there's some sort noise associated with these photos as well.

The V5s comes with a 13MP rear camera; like the V5 again, which is equipped with a bunch of features including a single LED flash and Phase Detection Autofocus. The rear camera is capable of recording 1080p videos.

In terms of storage, the V5s offers 64GB of expandable (up to 256GB via microSD card) storage. As far as connectivity is concerned, the device features a 3.5mm headphone jack, GPS/ A-GPS, Micro-USB with OTG, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v4.0, and 4G VoLTE.

Onboard sensors include a virtual gyroscope, proximity sensor, digital compass, ambient light sensor, and accelerometer. The V5s is backed by a 3000mAh non-removable battery and its dimensions are 153.8x75.5x7.55mm. The device weighs in at 154 grams.
