It's no secret that the tablet segment is gradually fading with more and more consumers refraining from investing in high-spec'd Android tablets. This explains why a majority of recently released Android tablets have been largely low-priced ones. Breaking the long-reigning trend, Samsung has introduced the Galaxy Tab S3, which crosses the $500 threshold.

There are umpteen hands-on reviews running rampant online, with quite a few reviewers going berserk over the Tab S3's display and stylus. But the device is not spared from flaws.

First off, the Tab S3 comes bearing a steep price tag of $599.99, which does not justify the device's small battery and a mediocre processor. Here's a rundown of some of most interesting reviews doing rounds online.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S3: Specs & Features

Samsung's elegantly designed Galaxy Tab S3 features a capable stylus. It sports an awe-inspiring AMOLED screen, with fingerprint sensor providing added security and impressively loud quad speakers. Aside from that, the Galaxy Tab S3 is the first HDR-ready tablet.

With the Galaxy Tab S3, the South Korean tech firm takes a direct shot at Apple's iPad Pro. The S3 is comparatively thinner and lighter than an iPad Pro at 9.35 x 6.65 x .23 inches and weighing in at 15.1 ounces. The Android tablet packs 4GB of RAM coupled with 32GB of storage and a microSD slot.

The Galaxy Tab S3 runs Android 7.0 Nougat, with considerably less amount of Samsung bloatware. The device's USB-C port supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3. Samsung has also retained the 3.5mm headphone jack. The S3's 2,048×1,536 pixel 9.7-inch AMOLED screen is identical to the one on its predecessor, the Galaxy Tab S2, with the inclusion of essential electronics and software in order to support HDR content, according to PC Mag's Sascha Segan.

On the photography front, the Galaxy Tab S3 boasts a 13MP main camera, which supports 4K and 1080p video. It has a 5MP front snapper that also supports up to 4K video.

Under the hood, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 will be powering up the Galaxy Tab S3. This does not coincide with previous reports that hinted at an SD 835; however, it's still a step up from the Exynos on the Tab S2. Despite bearing benchmark numbers that were well below several models of iPad, quite a few reviewers found the Tab S3's performance snappy.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S3: Selling Points

According to every review, the Galaxy Tab S3 boasts an amazing quality of the AMOLED display. Although the device's resolution is same as the latest iPad Pro, reviewers suggest it is brighter and has more vibrant colors. Multiple reviewers also raved about the device's S3's dual-band Wi-Fi performance.

The speakers on the Galaxy Tab S3 are tuned by AKG and as ArsTechnica reports; the audio output adjusts to how a user is holding the tablet. For instance, Landscape mode offers more amplification for music.

However, The Verge's Jacob Kastrenakes didn't like the effect when watching movies in landscape mode. According to Kastrenakes, the audio gets washed away to the left and right of the viewer. Although the speakers are a step up from the S2, they sounded rugged.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S3: Drawbacks

Despite the hype surrounding the HDR content, Samsung has not made it available on the tablet yet. Much to the chagrin of those who love playing games on their Android devices, large games take a lot of time to load on the Galaxy Tab S3. Also, the keyboard add-on carries a hefty price tag.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S3: Conclusion

Samsung added an array of impressive features including the S Pen and HDR support into its premium Galaxy Tab S3. However, those looking to get their hands on the Tab S3 need to bear in mind this doesn't come with a keyboard. The device focuses more on content consumption rather than creation.
