The latest "Pokemon GO" event is showering trainers with double the amount of candy and six-hour-long lures. It's Valentine's Day, and Niantic Labs has decided that a rehash of their Halloween event would be a sweet way to celebrate. The event has gone live as of February 8 and is reported to last until February 15. Notably pink-colored Pokemon will also spawn more frequently, meaning and Chanseys and Clefables galore.

While a six-hour lure is a pretty huge upgrade, and more candy is always a good thing, many players find the update lacking in terms of new content. Forbes even notes that the Valentine's Day event is not what Pokemon GO needs right now. According to them, a "common complaint among fans" is that it doesn't feel like Niantic is re-investing their earnings back into the game.

Now that trainers' Pokedexes are pretty much full and everyone is as close as they'll be to catching 'em all, players are desperate for new content. Everyone's been looking forward to the release of Gen 2 Pokemon, and the alleged leaked sprite sheet with eeveelutions Espeon and Umbreon has only further amplified the hype.

Gen 2: APK Datamine Reveals Gen 2 Prep

The first hint of Generation 2 comes in the form of Chikorita. According to Slash Gear, the Pokemon ID for every monster in Gen 2 has been updated in Pokemon GO's Master File code. The first Pokemon in that index with ID 152 is Chikorita, a Grass-type Pokemon that evolves into Bayleef and then Meganium.

Chikorita also happens to be the Grass starter for Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal, alongside Cyndaquil and Totodile. This bodes well for Johto-region Pokemon, which suggests Gen 2 may not be as far away as we think.

Gen 2: Egg Distance Update

According to Pokemon GO Informer, a total of 17 Pokemon have been moved from one egg group to another. This isn't the first time that's happened, but this is the largest egg group shift to date. Is this preparation for Gen 2? Some players seem to think so, if the Pokemon GO Reddit holds any indication. One user points out that a mid-March release date seems plausible.

Originally Pinsir, Onix, and Scyther hatched from 10km eggs, but they can now be hatched from 5km eggs. Abra, Bellsprout, Ekans, Gastly, and Goldeen can now be hatched from 2km eggs instead of the previous 5km. Check out a full chart here.

Currently, Niantic has not announced an official release date for "Pokemon GO" Gen 2, although fans are certainly hoping it be sooner rather than later. Other highly-anticipated updates include player-versus-player matches and P2P trading.
