February is shaping up to be a big month for "Pokemon GO" fans, as the next big update could bring more Johto region (Gen 2) Pokemon. Also there's a Valentine's Day event that could introduce friendship-based evolutions and leaked sprite sheets on Niantic's server that show three new Pokemon; Eevee evolutions Espeon and Umbreon and unique Baby Pokemon Tyrogue.

Johto Region Pokemon. A report from Android Police says that Johto Region or Gen 2 Pokemon are set to appear in-game very soon. The reporter's source is evidently the latest Pokemon Trainer Club Newslette. No other details are given on the newsletter, which players can view here, other than the fact that trainers can "start looking for them today."

Johto Region is the region where Pokemon Gold and Silver happen and they were previously only available through eggs. This would make them hard to catch, given that egg drops are random. The image only shows Pichu and Togepi, but it's possible that other Johto Region Baby Pokemon like Igglybuff, Elekid, Magby, and Cleffa may now be found in the wild as well.

Sprites on Niantic's Server. According to iTech Post, a "Pokemon GO" sprites sheet was leaked online, showing a Tyrogue sprite-a unique Baby Pokemon that may evolve into a Hitmontop if it has even stats. There were also sprites for an Espeon and Umbreon, and their appearance ties in with a rumored Pokemon GO Valentine's Day event that focuses on Pokemon-Trainer friendship.

Gen 2 Valentine's Day Event. Daily Star says that this upcoming "Pokemon GO" Valentine's Event may focus primarily on the Gen 1 Pokemon Eevee, the evolution Pokemon. Following Pokemon Canon, Eevee can evolve into a Vaporeon, Flareon or Jolteon when introduced to a water, fire, or lightning stone, respectively. In the game, Eevee may evolve by changing its name to a specific nickname.

Following "Pokemon Gen 2" canon, Espeon and Umbreon evolve when an Eevee's friendship level reaches certain parameters. The result is dependent on the time that happens (Umbreon evolves in the day, Espeon at night).

Further speculations suggest there will be a new feature introduced in "Pokemon GO" in time for the Valentine's Day event. This is to purposely measure this "Friendship" and allow players to achieve the two new Eevee evolutions.
