"Fallout 4" has overthrown "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" to become the most successful game in the game developer Bethesda's history. Bethesda marketing executive Pete Hines appeared on the Kinda Funny Gamecast and said that "Fallout 4" has got to be the most successful game they have ever launched in their company's history.
In terms of what they have done, they have done more than what they did in "Skyrim". Although the meaning of what Hines said about "Fallout 4" being the "most successful", he later provided more insight on the "Fallout 4" vs. "Skyrim" comparison. Via his Twitter, he clarified that he was apparently comparing the two titles over the same period of time and that "Fallout" has, a matter of fact, sold more copies than "Skyrim".
Speaking of such, "Skyrim" was released in November 2011 and sold more than 20 million copies as of 2014. On the other hand, "Fallout 4" was released two years ago in the same month and shipped 12 million copies on launch day.
But Bethesda has reportedly not provided a hard sales figure for the game ever since. More so, with "Skyrim" releasing its Special Edition remaster, it had a boost in 2015 in terms of it sales.
Furthermore, during the interview, Hines reacted to the critique that "Fallout 4" did not do enough to distinguish itself from its predecessors. He might have agreed that the game has shared commonalities with "Fallout 3".
But he pointed out that the nature of the beast with sequels serve as the balancing act between maintaining the core formula and eventually pushing things forward. Hines added that Sony's "Uncharted" series has the same feels as well.
Finally, Hines offered a high-level tease for what Bethesda Game Studios going to make or do next. He said that whatever they do next, whether it is going to be with "Fallout 5" or "Elder Scrolls 6", he thinks that their mantra is always to step up their game.
