It is most likely that the 2017 iPhone will have an OLED display. Apple's shift to OLED screen from LCD has been widely speculated and many believe that its next flagship phone will feature the new screen. Raymond Soneira, founder of DisplayMate Technologies, brings light as to what the iPhone OLED will be like.
There have been a lot of speculations about the next Apple iPhone. Even the name of the phone has been debated on, some believe that it will be the iPhone 8 but others say that it will be an iPhone X. The "X" is said to be appropriate since this year marks the 10th year of Apple's smartphone.
Raymond Soneira, founder of DisplayMate Technologies and a Ph.D. holder in theoretical physics from Princeton University, discussed what people might see in the new 2017 iPhone. DisplayMate has served as an adviser to a number of the world's top device manufacturers.
According to Soneira, the iPhone 8 OLED hardware display specs will most likely be similar to what is seen in the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 display. He also said that the iPhone 8 will feature a curved flexible OLED screen.
With a curved OLED screen, the 2017 iPhone may be bezel-less and will feature an edge-to-edge screen. This 2017 iPhone 8 feature has already been widely speculated along with the reports that the new Apple flagship smartphone will incorporate the home button, finger print sensor and other buttons in the display screen.
A curved iPhone display is possible. Apple has been known to only put the best technology available in its flagship unit but it also has a patent for curved display. The OLED screen display, being the best available display tech, coupled with the curved display patent of the company is sure to put the next Apple iPhone atop the smartphone market.
