The "John Wick" film franchise will be releasing its second movie in February 10. Coinciding with the film's release, Starbreeze and Lionsgate announced the upcoming arrival of the new virtual reality game "John Wick Chronicles."
The new title is a first-person shooter experience that was made for the HTC Vive VR headset. It will be available on Steam starting February 9 -- a day before "John Wick: Chapter 2" hits the big screen.
According to MovieWeb, fans can pre-order "John Wick Chronicles" on Steam for $19.99. Those who have done so can also acquire a free copy of "Payday 2." The "John Wick" game is co-developed by Starbreeze and Lionsgate with Grab Games, GameCo and Big Red Button.
"John Wick Chronicles" explores various familiar places found in the film. For example, they can step into the Continental Hotel where some of the targets are. Players will take the role of the titular assassin portrayed by Keanu Reeves, tasked to bring down almost unbeatable foes.
Throughout the experience, a concierge named Charon will guide the players into the hotel while speaking into their ears. Polygon writes that Charon is voiced by Lance Reddick who was also part of the "John Wick" movie. It is unsure whether Keanu Reeves himself has lent his voice for the game. Fans can see for themselves when the VR game appears in February.
As a virtual reality title, "John Wick Chronicles" will require actual movements from its players. Besides holding the controllers, users will also have to physically move to dodge bullets and field attacks.
Meanwhile, the second "John Wick" movie will focus on the legendary assassin as he goes back to his work after a former associate asks his help. John Wick will travel to Rome, where he will go head-to-head with the world's deadliest assassins.
