Virtual reality has now become one of the latest trends in technology. The genre’s rise to fame was so quick that it is now even used in certain movie tie-ins. Early last year, some VR experiences were launched for horror films. Heading towards the later part of 2016, sci-fi and action blockbusters had them, too.
Keanu Reeves’ latest action film, “John Wick: Chapter 2,” has a VR tie-in, entitled, “John Wick Chronicles.” It is a relatively small first-person VR shooter that can be bought for only $19.99. As expected, its theme is based on the movie of the same name.
According to Cinema Blend, the gaming community was relieved to find out that “John Wick Chronicles” turned out to be a tactics-based shooting experience, instead of a simple on-rails arcade shooter. The option to take cover - in “Time Crisis” fashion - gives it replayability, as opposed to simple whack-a-mole shooting.
Developed by GamecoStudios, Big Red Buttons, and Grab Games, “John Wick Chronicles” will put players in the role of the top-gun assassin, John Wick - via floating gloved hands.
“John Wick Chronicles” gamers are allowed to dodge. With this kind of gameplay, players get the chance to plan and time their shots, as well as avoid getting shot by taking cover.
On a graphics-wise standpoint, “John Wick Chronicles” is reportedly not bad. The in-game characters look all right and the environment is highly detailed. Although the in-game shooting has been reviewed as fairly solid, some gamers were a bit disappointed.
According to PC Gamer, “John Wick Chronicles” did not share the brutality that was featured in the film. “I sat on my carpet aiming at body-armored pixel blobs from across a parking garage, doing none of the cool stuff John Wick does,” the critic wrote.
