Police are getting worried of Ideal Conceal, a handgun that looks like an old-generation iPhone, but is actually a .380 caliber menace. Ideal Conceal appears like a plain phone when its grip and trigger are concealed, yet "transforms" into an actual handgun that works and could kill.
According to the Minnesota-based gun manufacturing company, the idea behind their guns is to make them "hide and virtually undetectable." Of course, the catch is when this iPhone-looking hardware succeeded in doing so.
Police are worried that the gun is so easy to hide in plain view. In fact, anyone can carry them in their hands without being detected unless they went through thorough, meticulous inspection. Ideal Conceal is hard to distinguish from a real iPhone, according to Belgian newspaper Dernier Heure.
Reports also stressed the fact that most people own an iPhone in Western countries. Thus, it makes the Ideal Conceal handgun easy to be overlooked. Having such worries have already set the Belgian police on high alert when the gun arrives in the coming months. There are several warnings as well for the public to scrutinize any bulky-looking iPhone.
According to The Times report, Ideal Conceal sells for $395 in the US and it drew 12,000 pre-orders already. The handgun folds up to look like an iPhone but fires high-velocity ammunitions when its handle and trigger are deployed. Further, Ideal Conceal is "user-friendly" since it doesn't need to be cocked before firing.
Meanwhile, the Ideal Conceal website defended that everybody is a potential victim of crimes. This scenario can happen to housewives and professionals alike so an iPhone-inspired handgun could be a deterrent.
On the commercial side, Ideal Conceal claims that there is a high-demand for handguns that people can carry anywhere daily. There is a particular preference to handguns that doesn't sport the same "fearsome" look of traditional pieces as well. These attributes make Ideal Conceal a nice choice since it looks like a regular iPhone.
