Citing the Galaxy Note 7 debacle, Samsung's obvious choice would have been to get rid of the ill-fated line; however, in a bold move, the South Korean tech firm opted to give the Note series another shot.

Samsung is reportedly gearing up to launch the successor to its Note 7 smartphone later this year. News about the Galaxy Note 8's imminent arrival comes from Samsung's mobile chief DJ Koh, who also debunked rumors running rampant online suggesting that the company is bent on scrapping the Note series. This is definitely good news for smartphone lovers who have been clamoring for Samsung's next flagship smartphone despite the Note 7 fiasco. Koh noted that the series has lots of loyalists while talking to CNET.

Interestingly, the confirmation comes just ahead of this Sunday's how-it-all-happened press conference, where Samsung will be going into details about what exactly went wrong with the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone and why did it catch fire. In order to rebuild its credibility with Galaxy Note's huge customer base, Koh guaranteed that he will bring back a better, safer and even more innovative Galaxy Note 8. This does not coincide with what multiple sources have predicted in the past.

In the wake of last year's Galaxy Note 7 mishap, it was expected that Samsung will scrap the Note line. However, in an undeniably bold move, the company has opted to come out with a successor to the controversy-plagued smartphone instead.

Despite having to make countless apologies to the Note 7 users, losing a considerable amount of money in profit and being left with no choice but to conduct a global recall of the fiery Note 7 units, Samsung did not put the lid on its Note series. Koh attributed the company's decision to not dump the Note series to the brand's huge popularity among smartphone lovers.

Meanwhile, Samsung is gearing up to launch the Galaxy S8 sometime in mid-April, according to Gadgets360. The long-rumored smartphone will reportedly ditch the standard Home Button, feature a pressure sensitive large dual edged display, sport a dual camera setup placed at the back of the device and come with a dedicated hardware button for Bixby, the S8's new AI assistant.
