It's no secret that Android Nougat is second to none in terms of Android versions. The OS was officially released late last year and tech firms are leaving no stone unturned in their bid to ensure that all their current hardware are updated to Google's lauded operating system. The most recent device slated to get the Android Nougat treatment is the 2015 Nvidia Shield Tablet K1.
Android Nougat update should roll out for the Nvidia Shield Tablet K1 within a few weeks, according to a recent post on the official Nvidia Google+ account. A few weeks most likely alludes either to a late February or early March rollout, and although the aforesaid post does not shed more light on other details, it is an official confirmation nonetheless.
It remains to be seen if the 2014 variant of the Shield Tablet gets the Android Nougat upgrade as well. However, taking into consideration how close the tablet is to nearing 3-years of age, this seems highly unlikely.
Despite packing identical hardware, the said updates have always trailed behind the current generation Nvidia Shield Tablet K1. Another post on NVIDIA Forums suggests the original SHIELD Tablet is likely to get the update too; though, it will not be anytime soon.
Nvidia refrained from spilling the beans about what the company has in store aside from the standard upgrade that Android Nougat brings to the table. However, if the slew of jaw-dropping enhancements the Android Nougat update brought to the 2015 Shield TV are anything to go by, it will be quite interesting to see what aces the acclaimed chip maker has up its sleeve for the Shield Tablet K1.
Some of the addition that the 2015 SHIELD TV received with the Android 7.0 Nougat update includes Nvidia Games Apps, Nest support, and Amazon video. Aside from that, users can now keep tabs on live video via their Nest Cameras with the help of the Nest app, according to Phone Arena.
Meanwhile, Nvidia Shield Tablet K1 users were treated to a brand new game earlier this month. The game is "No Man's Sky" and it will be up for grabs for $59.99. Users who order the game from the Shield Store will receive a Steam digital code they can use to activate the game on the tablet.
