2017 is a big year in the gaming community. The highly anticipated sequel to "Red Dead Redemption" has been announced to arrive this year and there are speculations revolving around the alleged potential connection that the sequel will have with "Mafia III."
According to MIC, the title was published by 2K Games, which happens to be under the same corporate holdings as Rockstar Games, the developer of "Red Dead Redemption 2." The game's story takes place in New Bordeaux, a city inspired by the real-life New Orleans.
An Alleged "RDR2" Map Leaks Out
In April, IGN reported that an in-game map for "Red Dead Redemption 2" leaked out. The leaked map happens to have a city called New Bordeaux, which is the same city where "Mafia III" is set. The absence of a railroad in the Great Plains may also mean that the upcoming title is a prequel.
The leaked map also featured what appears to be a swamp-like region. In real-life settings, Louisiana is east of Texas, the location where the first "Red Dead Redemption" game derived its setting.
The U.K. Daily Star reported in the same month that the alleged leak was first posted on NeoGAF but it was later deleted. The outlet also suggested that the watery areas in the leaked map could hint on boating or swimming as a means of transportation in "Red Dead Redemption 2." On the other hand, there could be other terrains for players to explore including snowy mountains and deserts.
The purported leak may not be a sure hint on the supposed "Mafia III" crossover. However, it may suggest that players will see a little bit of the swampy New Bordeaux area in "Red Dead Redemption 2." Amid all the talks about a connection between the two titles, it is best to wait for Rockstar to address the speculations.
There is still not much known about what "Red Dead Redemption 2" can offer. However, fans are looking forward to amazing content and an improved gameplay when the title releases late 2017.
