Blizzard Entertainment is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its "Diablo" gaming franchise. The game maker revealed in November last year that "Diablo III" will have a retro-style mode that is inspired by the very first instalment of the game.

"Diablo III" players were pleasantly surprised after discovering that, for a limited time, they can play the original "Diablo" from within the 3rd instalment.

Blizzard was scheduled to release "The Darkening of Tristram," which is its 20th anniversary patch, for the Xbox One, PC, and PS4. In addition to this patch, however, "Diablo III" players can also gain access into a throwback dungeon, according to Gamespot.

To get into this 16-level dungeon in the Cathedral, "Diablo III" players need to talk to some cultists while in Adventure Mode. The cultists will then open a portal that will bring the player to a secret dungeon that is set within the original "Diablo" universe. Players will also have the chance to go against the four main bosses from the original game, as well as Diablo himself.

Cinema Blend has reported that since the dungeon bonus is designed after the original game, movement is restricted to only eight directions. It will feature old-school graphics, retro sound effects, as well as the original Gothic UI. Blizzard has reportedly suggested that gamers create a new character in order to enjoy the full experience, which is only available in January 2017.

The Anniversary patch also came with new loot items, such as a seventh piece of the Crusader's Armor of Akkhan set. Some pre-existing items have also been upgraded. Several class specific-Legendaries will reportedly get new Legendary powers. However, if these items have already been previously looted, there will not be any changes. Blizzard wants its "Diablo III" players to set forth and track new ones.
