Audi and NVIDIA have put an end to the speculations regarding the companies working together. The tech giants have finally revealed their long time collaboration work at the CES 2017, announcing their biggest joint venture on AI Based Self-Driving car. The companies had been working together for some time now and tech fanatics had been desperately waiting for what the companies had planned. According to the announcement at the event, the companies are working to bring fully automated driving to the roads by 2020, using AI and deep learning technology.
While NVIDIA has been working on developing an artificial intelligence platform for self-driving cars, it seems that the tech giant wasn't happy in letting some other companies use it. Audi and NVIDIA unveiled their new partnership at the CES 2017 recently, marking the beginning of a new era for AI-powered cars. While the project is still under work, the companies believe that their first full automated car will hit the streets by 2010.
The hard work, the companies have put into the project can be seen in an experimental Q7 SUV, which has successfully learned to drive itself in a record time of three days. The companies' plan does not end with this. Audi and NVIDIA are now trying to develop the Audi vehicles into level 4 fully automated cars. This would lead to fully autonomous cars on roads by 2020.While other companies including Tesla currently have self-driving cars, they're still way behind in developing level 4 autonomous cars.
Audi and NVIDIA haven't yet revealed much about their new joint venture. While there are speculations about whether the vehicles will be available for purchase at the time of its launch or not, it's expected that the tech giants will first roll out test vehicles on streets. Selfless driver tech is a huge milestone for NVIDIA, which has been working on the project for a long time. While Audi has collaborated with NVIDIA in the past as well, the new joint venture suggests that the car manufacturer is all set to use NVIDIA's hardware in its upcoming autonomous vehicles.
The current project features NVIDIA's Drive PX 2 processor combined with Audi's Q7 Piloted Driving Concept. The vehicle was successfully able to self-drive after just a period of 4 days. No doubt, NVIDIA's Drive PX 2 provide the vehicle with an incredible ability to learn on the go, which is so far the best AI system any auto manufacturer has been working on.
