Homes have long evolved; now they are smarter. Nvidia aims to take it a step further as it launches a Shield streaming device and with some help from Google.

The new Nvidia Shield streaming device is capable of streaming 4K content via Netflix, as well as other services. Those who have the device could stream Netflix original shows via their Shield devices in 4K. This aims to compete with cable box, other streamers and even Amazon Echo, according to Tech Crunch.

Apart from its 4K streaming capability, the Shield device also has a built in AI microphone. This always-on microphone called Nvidia Spot can be placed anywhere at home. In fact, there can be multiple Spots at a house so it would be more convenient for the owner.

These Nvidia Spots are easy to install. They are portable and are plugged directly into outlets. These Spots are used to command Google Assistant that is also installed in the Shield streaming device.

Assistant can only be seen in a few locations until it was announced at CES 2017 that it will be available for Android TV. These will include Android TV devices that have Androids 6.0 and 7.0, as well as other streaming boxes. Of course, it comes in the Nvidia Shield device.

With Assistant, people can open specific apps and streams on the device. The Spot will hear the command and then relay the message to Assistant as it does the work. From anywhere in the house, someone could command the device to stream "Stranger Things" from Netflix, for example.

CNET reported that the updated Nvidia Shield device will be priced at $199. This comes with a controller and remote and will be available later this month. The Nvidia Spot and the AI mic availability and price were not yet announced.
