A newly released footage for "Kong: Skull Island" suggests that the film will be different from the 1976 classic. It will reportedly vary in the sense that it will not be focused on the "beauty and the beast" angle.
"Things on this island are much bigger than audiences are used to with traditional Kong lore," he told Entertainment Weekly. "Our Kong is, by far, the biggest Kong that you have seen on screen and that translates to a lot of different things on the island."
"Skull: Kong Island" follows a group of human explorers who come to investigate the island. It takes place shortly after the Vietnam War, which further teases connections to the anticipated mash-up with Godzilla.
Godzilla vs. King Kong theories became even more explicit after a new video was posted on the film's Twitter account. This new clip revealed some important details regarding Captain James Conrad, the character that Tom Hiddleston portrays, including his ties to MONARCH.
MONARCH is the scientific organization that brought Godzilla into the world. This hint suggests that it is also responsible for the expedition to the titular island. That said, a recently released marketing photo showed even more hints that point to the much-anticipated monster battle.
The photo, under a blacklight, shows a skeleton image of a massive lizard creature and some hidden notations from the shady organization. These secret notes were signed by a William Randa -- which is the character played by John Goodman in the upcoming movie.
"His mouth is fire," the note read. "His roar the floodwater. His breath is death. Enlil made him guardian of the Cedar Forest to frighten off the mortal world who would venture there. But, who would venture there?" This new discovery sparked theories that the Godzilla-like creature is the purpose of MONARCH's expedition into the island, and that King Kong is only an unexpected bonus.
