"Logan" - the very first "Wolverine" movie to get an R-rating - was previously reported to feature a cameo from Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds, either in the film or as part of its post-credits scene. The actor already denied an appearance in the movie, saying that the Merc with a Mouth "would not mix with the tone" and that "Prisoner 24601 is on a solo mission."
Director James Mangold even wrote on Twitter that the online publication that first reported on the cameo "is dealing in fake news." A collaboration between Wolverine and Deadpool is anticipated by Marvel fans, but "Logan" does not seem to have that platform.
The trailer, which was released in October, teased that "Logan" will feature a Western story arc. Hugh Jackman could be seen riding into a small town and reconnecting with an old mentor in the hopes of rescuing a mutant child. Mutant births have become extremely rare and the X-Men have long been gone - only Professor X and a weary Wolverine remain.
Clearly, the film's plot will be unlike the other superhero films that went before it. Mangold told Flicks and the City, via Comic Book, that "spectacle is not enough." Instead of coming up with "a collection of set pieces of action with very short connective things," Mangold wants to "invest in character."
"We wanted to make a movie that is really a drama," he said. "It was our goal to make a movie that earned its audience from feeling real - really feeling human or feeling intimate."
It has also recently been revealed that Caliban will be part of "Logan." The trailer showed the mutant-tracker undergoing some form of torture - a scene that is confirmed by the teaser photo that was posted on X-Men Films' Twitter account. This further sparked fan theories that the villains will attempt to control Caliban's ability to find remaining mutants.
