Playtonic Games' upcoming 3D platformer game "Yooka-Laylee" released its newest trailer today, along with an announcement that the game will not be coming out until early next year.

The games studio, which was formed by former Rare personnel, confirmed that the game will not be out this October, contrary to the original goal on their Kickstarter page. The game developer said that the game would need "a few extra months' polish" in order to please the fans who are eagerly waiting for its release.

"Ultimately, this will allow us to deliver a better game to the tens of thousands of you who've supported us throughout development," Playtonic Games creative director Gavin Price said on the official website. "And that's what we all want, right?"

The team promises to use the extra time to deliver a better game experience before it comes out next year, as this is Playtonic Games' first game

The colorful platformer, which is said to be the spiritual successor of "Banjo-Kazooie," will also be showcased at this year's Electronics Entertainment Expo, or E3.

"Yooka-Laylee" started out as a Kickstarter campaign, with former Rare developers trying to revive the 3D platformer genre. With games like "Banjo-Kazooie" and "Donkey Kong Country" firmly under their list of achievements, the team formed Playtonic Games.

The game, codenamed "Project Ukulele," was announced on the crowdfunding site on May 1, 2015. The Kickstarter campaign was so successful that it smashed its initial goal of £175,000 ( more than $255,000) within only thirty-eight minutes, and its highest goal of £1 million ($1.4 million) in 21 hours. The campaign was at the time the fastest video game in Kickstarter history to hit the $1 million mark, according to Hardcore Gamer.

It is also currently the highest-funded UK video game in Kickstarter at £2,090,104, surpassing the previous record of space game "Elite: Dangerous", Game Reactor reported.

"Yooka-Laylee" is now scheduled for a Q1 2017 release, and will be available on Windows, Mac, Linux, Playstation 4, Xbox One and Wii U.
