Google is expanding their Project Fi and for the first time, it will go beyond its coverage of Nexus phones. Users will now be able to order a data-only SIM that they can use on their tablets. But instead of being able to use it only on Android or Nexus devices like Galaxy Tab S, Nexus 7, and Nexus 9, the SIM can also be used on two other devices that run on iOS. The two iOS devices are the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 4.
With the announcement of the SIMs release and availability to other devices outside of Google, it will be the first time the tech giant's wireless service to be used on another that is not within the company's own operating system. This also brings the tech company's plan on making their data-only FI SIM open to work for other tablets or even phones from different companies as well. Google seem to think that all devices that are unlocked with T-Mobiles bands can work with their SIM as they just work on the carrier's network.
With the ability of Google's Fi tablet service, the tech company won't be charging an additional fee for the user's other products. Instead of going with the norm by charging a per device fee like most carriers do, Google offers a $10 USD per GB standard data buckets. It is also pro-rated in case a user goes over their data plan or can also be refunded if the user doesn't manage to use it at all.
The offer seems good enough isn't it? The bad news is the user can't use their devices for tethering. Once a user becomes a Google Fi subscriber, they can have up to nine data-only SIMs. If they are not a subscriber yet, they need to wait and get the early access program at the tech giant's site.
The $10 USD/GB data offer is also available by subscribing to Google's $20 USD/month voice and text plan which normally comes with the Tech company's Project Fi service.
