The Android 5.0 Lollipop over-the-air (OTA) update is yet to roll out, but a factory image is now available for the handset if you don't want to wait.
While the vast majority of Google's old Nexus flagships received factory images for the latest version of Android on Nov. 12, the Nexus 4 was left out in the cold up until now. It was rumored that a factory image would not be available for the handset, leaving users with no choice other than to wait for the OTA.
Nevertheless, a factory image of Android 5.0 Lollipop is now available for the Nexus 4, allowing users to flash the update manually if they don't want to wait for the OTA to start rolling out.
The factory image is available on Google's developer website at this link, allowing users with some knowledge about flashing to download the image and install the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop on their handset.
The download weighs in at 471MB and carries build number LRX21T. It is recommended to go down this route only if you have at least some knowledge about flashing, however. Otherwise, the OTA update should start rolling out soon.
The Nexus 4 may no longer be the newest Nexus smartphone anymore, but it's still quite a capable device with good specs and features for its price point. As a reminder, the Nexus 4 sports a 4.7-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels and packs a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor under the hood, clocked at 1.5GHz and paired with 2GB of RAM.
Other specs of the LG-made Google Nexus 4 include 8GB or 16GB of internal storage capacity, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 1.3-megapixel front shooter, and a 2,100 mAh battery to keep things up and running.
On the software side, Android 5.0 Lollipop will bring a slew of neat features, improvements and functionality, which should make the handset even better in terms of performance.
With the latest Android OS now available for the Nexus 4 as well, all eligible Nexus devices now have Android 5.0 Lollipop. This means that Google Play Edition (GPE) devices are next in line to get the update, after which Android 5.0 Lollipop will be ready for a wider rollout.
If you have a Nexus 4 and have installed the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop already, drop by our comment section below and let us know how it fares. If you'd rather wait for the OTA, fear not, it should roll out soon.
