The Motorola Nexus 6 finally gone up for pre-order, but it went in and out of stock in no time on the Google Play store.
The Nexus 6 was one of the most highly-anticipated devices of this year, and it apparently saw overwhelming demand. The handset comes as the very first phablet from Google and it's packed with top-notch specs and features all around, so it was expected to be in high demand.
It was not expected, however, to go up for pre-order later than the Nexus 9 and Nexus Player, and vanish off store shelves so quickly. While it's easy to see why the Nexus 6 would sell like hot cakes - think Nexus experience, Motorola build, top-notch specs - it still raises questions on whether Google managed to properly estimate demand and have adequate supply at hand.
Either way, the truth of the matter is that Nexus 6 pre-orders sold out in less than 24 hours, as both the 32GB and the more expensive 64GB models went out of stock on Google Play.
As a reminder, the Nexus 6 boasts a massive 5.96-inch AMOLED display with a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, packs a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor clocked at 2.7GHz under the hood, sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), and a 3,220 mAh battery with Motorola's Turbo Charging tech, among the highlights.
The handset comes with the very latest Android 5.0 Lollipop on board out of the box, and it's also part of the Nexus family, which guarantees timely updates whenever a new version of Android is ready to roll out. Nexus devices are always the first in line to get new updates, and that's always a plus.
The Nexus 6 was set to go up for pre-order on Wednesday, Oct. 29. The smartphone hit Google Play just as scheduled, but available stock rapidly vanished. Consequently, interested buyers who didn't get the chance to pre-order the new Nexus 6 now have no other alternative than to wait for the handset to go back in stock.
Google received plenty of criticism last year for stock issues affecting the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5, and many hoped that it would serve as a lesson in order to avoid facing similar issues with this year's Nexus 6.
Regardless of whether this is a marketing strategy to boost anticipation even further or it is simply a case of overwhelming demand, one thing's for sure: eager shoppers who missed out now have to wait, and pre-order delay will most likely translate in shipping delays as well.
Google will likely add more stock shortly, however, and you can find the 32GB Nexus 6 here, and the larger-capacity 64GB model at this link.
