AT&T has officially announced that it will start selling the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 mid-range phablet this week, on Oct. 24.
The Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 quietly made its way to overseas markets a little while ago, but the flagship Galaxy Note 4 drew most of the attention. While the Note 4 comes with top-notch specs and features all around, the Galaxy Mega 2 enters the mid-range category of the smartphone market, sporting promising specs, but nothing too high-end.
AT&T has now disclosed that it is ready to start offering the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 in the U.S. starting Friday, Oct. 24, with various data plans and pricing options. The device will cost $150 with a two-year contract, $19.80 per month with AT&T Next 18, $23.75 per month with AT&T Next 12, and $475 without a contract. The price is quite steep, yet the specifications the Galaxy Mega 2 has to offer are not on par with those of flagship smartphones.
The Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 sports a 6-inch HD display with 720p resolution, a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz and paired with 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage capacity, and a microSD card slot for additional memory. Other specs include an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, a 2.1-megapixel front shooter, and a 2,800 mAh battery to keep things up and running. On the software side, the device runs Android 4.4 KitKat with Samsung's own TouchWiz on top, complete with different modes such as one-handed, private, dual window, and ultra power saving mode.
"The Galaxy Mega 2 is designed for those who want to get the most out of their large-screen smartphone, featuring a 6-inch High Definition screen with a smaller overall 'just-right' size and one-handed operation mode that puts most everything within easier reach," AT&T touts in its announcement.
The device will become available for purchase in just a few days and is expected to be popular among consumers looking for a good phablet with a somewhat affordable price tag.
