A new Samsung Core Prime smartphone is apparently ready to make its debut soon and challenge Google's Android One handsets in the low-end category.
Samsung has never been too shy about flooding the market with all sorts of handsets to suit as many tastes, preferences, and budgets as possible, and the company is expected to keep doing so.
A Samsung Core Prime smartphone is apparently ready to hit the low-end segment of the smartphone market, at least in India, and the handset seems poised to take on the Android One smartphones from Google, as well as other rivals such as the Motorola Moto E and the Xiaomi Redmi 1S.
Retailer Flipkart has briefly listed the Samsung Core Prime handset on its website, with a price tag of INR 8,499. Flipkart soon removed the listing and noted that "This product is permanently discontinued," as you can see in the screenshot above, shared by Digit.
While Samsung has yet to make an official announcement regarding this Core Prime smartphone, the brief listing on Flipkart's website suggests that the handset may be ready to make an imminent debut in the country.
The Samsung Core Prime's spec sheet, as revealed by Digit, clearly suggests that the smartphone is aimed at Google's Android One lineup, as it comes with nearly identical specifications. The handset will apparently sport a 4.5-inch PLS LCD WVGA display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, and pack a 1.3GHz quad-core processor under the hood, paired with 1GB of RAM.
On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime will allegedly come with 8GB of internal storage capacity, which would be double compared to what Google's Android One smartphones have to offer. Other specs include a 5-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front shooter, and a 2,000 mAh battery.
On the software side, the Galaxy Core Prime will reportedly run Android 4.4 KitKat, but most likely won't get the timely software updates Google promised for Android One users.
If this brief listing is any indication, the Samsung (Galaxy) Core Prime should become official sooner rather than later, but nothing is confirmed at this point. It also remains unclear for now which other markets would get the handset, but we'll keep you up to date as soon as we learn more. In the meantime, take all leaks with a grain of salt.
