The Nexus 5, Google's latest stock Android device, may hit the Play Store in a red color option as soon as Feb. 4.
A short video recently made its way online showing the Google Nexus 5 in six new color options - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. With the existing black and white models, the Nexus 5 would be available in a total of eight color options according to that video.
Following several rumors, leaks and reports, a purported Sprint internal document has now surfaced online, showing that the red Nexus 5 would land in the Google Play store in just a few days, on Feb. 4. Android Central was the first to publish the alleged Sprint internal memo informing employees of the red Nexus 5's arrival.
As previously mentioned, red is just one of the six new color options that have recently leaked for the Nexus 5. While this is by no means an official confirmation, the newly-leaked memo does bolster the credibility of some photos that made their way online a few days ago, showing the Nexus 5 in a bright red paint job.
The Google Nexus 5 made its debut back in October 2013 and served as the launch vehicle for Google's latest Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. The smartphone comes with high-end specs and features, as well as the much-touted Nexus experience that guarantees timely updates as soon as Google releases a new version of Android.
The Nexus 5 is currently available only in black or white color options, but these intensifying leaks indicate that the Google Play store may get new Nexus 5 models very soon. Google may choose to release these new models one at a time, with red being the first one to debut.
For the time being, however, Google has yet to confirm plans to release its Nexus 5 in several new color options. As always in such cases, it is highly advisable to take everything with a grain of salt until an official announcement. If this latest leak proves to be accurate, we'll see the red Nexus 5 land in the Google Play store early next week.
