Just in time for Valentine's Day, Google and LG have released a fiery red version of the popular Nexus 5 smartphone.
The rumor mill heated up recently with news that more color options were in store for the Google Nexus 5 flagship smartphone, and red would be the first color to join the existing black or white options. As it turns out, those rumors were true and the Nexus 5 is now available in a red color option from the Google Play store.
Other than the passionate red paint job, the popular Nexus 5 remains unchanged in terms of specs and features. The smartphone sports a 4.95-inch full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, a pixel density of 445 pixels per inch (ppi) and Gorilla Glass 3 protection for extra scratch-resistance. Under the hood, the Nexus 5 packs a powerful quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.26GHz, paired with Adreno 330 graphics and 2GB of RAM. The Nexus 5 also served as the launch vehicle for Android 4.4 KitKat, as it was the first device to run the latest software out of the box.
Other specs include an 8-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), an improved HDR+ mode, and several other neat features, as well as a 1.3-megapixel front-facing shooter. Connectivity options consist of 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, NFC, and GPS. A non-removable 2,300 mAh battery will provide up to 13 hours of talk time. The Nexus 5 also supports wireless charging out of the box, but users will have to purchase a compatible wireless charging pad to take advantage of this functionality.
The brand new Red Nexus 5 is now available from the Google Play store for $349 in a 16GB configuration, or $399 for the 32GB model. Starting this month, the Red Nexus 5 will hit Google Play in the U.S., Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, Hong Kong, India, Japan, and Korea. The handset is also expected to become more widely available across Europe by the end of the month.
Previous rumors have also suggested that Google will launch its Nexus 5 in several other colors, including blue, purple, orange, green, and yellow, in addition to the black, white, and red color options that are now available. Google has only added the red option for now, but we'll make sure to keep you up to date as soon as a new color becomes available for the Nexus 5.
