Nokia recently unveiled its new flagship Lumia 1520 and AT&T is already taking pre-orders for the 16GB model, but when is the 32GB version coming?
The Nokia Lumia 1520 is not only the first phablet from Nokia, but it's also the first large-screen device to run on Microsoft's Windows Phone platform. The Lumia 1520 boasts a 6-inch display, the largest so far on a Windows Phone device, and this was made possible through Microsoft's third and latest update to the platform - GDR3.
The first Nokia phablet stirred lots of interest and is shaping up to be a strong contender in the phablet market, although it has some big rivals to stand up to. In the U.S., the Nokia Lumia 1520 will be exclusively available through AT&T, but so far only a 16GB storage option is listed. The limited storage was a drawback for some interested buyers, but Nokia had some good news for Lumia 1520 fans.
Nokia revealed that a larger-capacity 32GB model of the AT&T Nokia Lumia 1520 is on its way to the carrier's network. The company did not offer any exact launch date, but it should become available by the time the super-sized smartphone makes its global launch.
"The Nokia Lumia 1520 will be available in a variety of gorgeous colors including matte black, matte yellow, matte white or glossy red. An expanded memory version of the Lumia 1520, with 32 GB of internal memory, will be offered at AT&T in the near future," Nokia announced on its Conversations blog a few days ago, on Nov. 7.
While pre-order options were welcomed, Nokia fans are still wondering why the AT&T model is only available with 16GB of internal storage and without Qi wireless charging, as opposed to the global version of the smartphone. Nokia has yet to announce when the 32GB model will make its debut on AT&T's network, but at least we know it's coming. The wireless charging, however, seems to be a lost cause with AT&T.
For those unfamiliar with the new Windows Phone 8 phablet, the Nokia Lumia 1520 sports a large 6-inch display with a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.2GHz, 2GB of RAM, a 20-megapixel rear camera with PureView technology and other neat specs and features. The smartphone also comes with a micro SD card slot for additional memory, but more internal storage is usually preferred.
The 16GB Nokia Lumia 1520 costs $199.99 on a two-year contract with AT&T and is set to hit store shelves on Nov. 22. If you're dreaming of the 32GB model, however, you may have to wait a little longer, as Nokia is not saying anything for now. Other than the vague "in the near future" timeline, the company is staying mum. On the other hand, with the lucrative holiday shopping season just around the corner, Nokia might want to speed things up. We've asked the company when the 32GB version of the Lumia 1520 will land on AT&T and we'll keep you up to date as soon as we hear back.
