Owners of the Nokia Lumia 710 will be disappointed to learn that U.S. carrier T-Mobile will not be updating the smartphone to Windows Phone 7.8 "at this time."

Recently, news that the Lumia 710 would not be up for an update to Windows Phone 7.8 like other Nokia Lumia handsets was doing the rounds after a Lumia 710 owner contacted Nokia directly. Nokia's customer service informed the owner via an e-mail that T-Mobile would not be supporting the update.

Now, the word comes straight from the horse's mouth. T-Mobile has officially confirmed via its support forum that the Lumia 710 will not get the Windows Phone 7.8 software update in the near term.

"At this time, the Nokia Lumia 710 will not receive the software update.T-Mobile is committed to enhancing customers' experience with our devices, including providing upgrades to the latest operating systems, and T-Mobile aims to deliver software upgrades when it will provide a better experience for our customers. We'll share additional information on upgrades for the Nokia Lumia 710 when they are available," noted T-Mobile's statement per TmoNews.

The news is a bit of a downer for Lumia 710 owners, especially since the phone is not very old and devices which were launched in the same period are slated to get the update.

However, all is not lost; users who want to get the Windows Phone 7.8-based features can manually install the update via hacks and some tweaking.
