Sony has a reputation of launching a new device in two or three color options and then launching it in a new color sometime later in the bid to grab the attention of smartphone enthusiasts. Now, it looks like the company has resorted to the same publicity stunt with its high-end Xperia XZ Premium smartphone as well.

Sony announced the Xperia XZ Premium at the recently concluded MWC (Mobile World Congress), and just days ahead of the device's scheduled release, the Japanese mobile manufacturer has revealed that the upcoming smartphone will be up for grabs in a new color variant; "Bronze Pink."

In addition to the newfangled hue, the Xperia XZ Premium will come in a "Deepsea Black" and "Luminous Chrome" tint. Although Sony is no stranger to releasing pink smartphones, a recently surfaced report claims it is sort of hard to think of in connection with the "bronze" moniker. It is still a likable pink color, nevertheless.

According to Xperia Color Designer, Satoshi Aoyagi (via GSM Arena), the company was looking for a color that symbolized a feeling of "warmth," while accentuating the device's premium features and design at the same time. The bronze metallic color gives an appearance of depth to the glass both on the front and back, Aoyagi added.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium Specifications

Sony's next flagship smartphone is the first handset capable of capturing slow-motion video at an impressive 960fps (frames per second). Other specs include a 5.5-inch 4K LCD screen, and IP68 dust/water resistance. It also features USB Type-C.

Under the hood, the Xperia XZ Premium packs a Snapdragon 835, 4GB of RAM, 64 GB on-board storage with microSD card slot. The Xperia XZ Premium is backed by a 3,230 mAh battery, and runs on Android 7.1, AndroidAuthority reported.

Aside from that, there is Sony's signature side-mounted fingerprint sensor, which is region-specific. As if that weren't enough, even the Gorilla Glass used in the Xperia XZ Premium is gen. 5. As far as the unique Bronze Pink variant of the phone is concerned, it will hit the store shelves in June in select markets.
