Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus do not support Google Daydream. Behind its tag as one of the most powerful smartphones ever created, the user will just be greeted with an error image when trying to install the Google Daydream application for Samsung's Gear VR headset.
Samsung's Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 plus are an impressive set of devices. This recent release from the South Korean tech giant has a strong indication that they were designed with VR capabilities taken into consideration. The company envisioned the devices for its own Gear VR System. One of the reasons why the competing VR Google Daydream will not work with the flagship devices, says 9to5google.
Given the factors that the Samsung's Gear VR headset has more developed contents and the company is not obliged to provide support for Google Daydream, but still, it may bring disappointment to the users who might want to have access on what Google can offer. There are quite a lot of applications in Google Daydream, which are not found on the Samsung's platform.
Technically, there is no reason that the Samsung Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ cannot run the Google Daydream. However, it provided the fact that Samsung has the right to play its handset with or without Google's platform for having its own VR material. In addition, Samsung's Oculus ties would hinder the agreement between the two of them, explained Android Authority.
Nonetheless, the VRHeads provided users the option to change a single line of code in the system permission of Galaxy S8 in order for Daydream to work. Doing this will require a root access, which is not yet available on Galaxy S8 but sooner it is expected it be changed. Then Daydream will be accessed, authorized or not but by doing that, it might void your Samsung Galaxy S8's warranty.
