Tablet sales have seen a significant decline in the past couple of years; however, the iPad continues to stir things up in the tablet realm over the years, thanks to Apple's unceasing updates and steady support for the lauded lineup.

Last week, Apple announced a brand spanking new iPad bearing simply "the new iPad" moniker, filling out the company's lineup of products. Although it's a great extension, deciding which models to go for is a bit more difficult now.

But fret not! The internet is brimming with all sorts of details that simplify important things an iPad enthusiast need to bear in mind when choosing between the four iPad models.

Apple iPad 2017: Sizes

The current generation iPad models comprise a 7.9-inch iPad mini 4, 9.7-inch new iPad, 9.7-inch iPad Pro and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. While the iPad mini 4 is ideal for playing games and browsing the internet, the 12.9-inch iPad Pro is perfect for those looking to replace a laptop with a device that can also be used as a tablet.

Those who do not fit into the aforesaid use cases will be left with two alternatives to choose from i.e. the new 9.7-inch and the 9.7-inch iPad Pro. The Pro is comparatively thinner and lighter than the iPad, in addition to a slew of other features. In other words, tech buffs looking to get their hands on the best there is in terms of mobility and industrial design at this size should go with the 9.7-inch iPad Pro.

Much to the dismay of iPad fans, the 10.5-inch iPad Pro was not announced this past week; however, this does not necessarily imply it's not in the works. IHS Markit analyst Rhoda Alexander told Forbes' contributor Brooke Crothers that the 10.5-inch iPad Pro is likely to make an appearance sooner rather than later.

Apple iPad 2017: Specs & Features

The new iPad doesn't come with a fully-laminated display nor does it have an antireflective coating, although these features have been standard in tablets for a long time. However, not all of these iPad boasts identical features.

For instance, the iPad mini 4 does not support multitasking and packs an older A8 processor. As if that weren't enough, it comes with a mediocre 2048 × 1536 pixels resolution display with 326 PPI (pixels per inch).

In terms of specs and features, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro is probably the best iPad consumers can get their hands on. Powered by an A9X processor, 9.7-inch iPad Pro supports the Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil and has four speakers. It sports a 12MP primary camera and a 5MP front shooter for the selfie addicts, according to Gadgets 360.

Apple iPad 2017: Verdict

Those looking to purchase an iPad packed with best specs and everything needed to transform an iPad into a productivity machine should grab the 9.7-inch iPad Pro. Those looking for a complete laptop replacement can consider buying the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. The device sells for a high price and features a massive size. The iPad mini 4, on the other hand, seems awfully overpriced at the moment, though it is still a great tablet.
