Microsoft will reportedly still be going through with its planned hardware showcase event in spring this year. However, new reports are revealing that the company may not be unveiling the new Microsoft Surface Book 2 just yet. It was previously expected that the company would finally lift the veil off its latest Surface Book laptop next month, but that will apparently not be the case.
According to a report from ZDNet, the upcoming new Microsoft Surface Book 2 is not quite ready yet for its debut. It is already a certainty that it is being produced, but the device itself may not yet be ready to be showcased to the public. Microsoft usually holds its big Surface hardware events in New York during spring, but the software giant has not yet officially announced plans for a spring hardware showcase this year.
As for the device itself, DigiTimes reports that Microsoft may be going into an entirely new direction this year in regards to its Surface Book product. The report claims that Microsoft may be going for a more traditional clamshell laptop design for the Microsoft Surface Book 2. This will technically be a new category for the Surface line as the original Surface Book was sold beside the Surface Pro as a 2-in-1 laptop-tablet device.
If the Microsoft Surface Book 2 will indeed be sold as a traditional laptop, the upcoming new device may be priced significantly lower than its predecessor. Having no complicated hinges and connectors, the laptop could also sport some additional features and more powerful hardware.
Microsoft's next planned event is their Build developers conference slated to happen in May. While the company is expected to talk more about their Windows 10 operating system during the event, it wouldn't be far-fetched to speculate that the company may have a few announcements to make regarding their highly awaited new Surface Book device. Just don't expect the Microsoft Surface Book 2 to make an appearance.
