Nintendo's hybrid console, the Nintendo Switch will have a supply problem. This is according to one of the top gaming store, Gamestop.
The unprecedented feat of Nintendo Switch is an inspiration to all other gaming console developers. On its first week, the Japanese hybrid console sold 1.5 million units. Several retailers immediately ran out of stocks and following restocks were also quick to ran out.
To bridge the gap between the massive demand and supply, several reports claim that the company is looking into the possibility of doubling up the production. The company has a target of 8 million units produced by the end of the first quarter. However, with the recent demand, the company pushed it for 16 million, this way, the stocks will be available to more customers.
However, despite the recent increase in production, Gamestop COO Tony Bartel believes that there will still be supply shortage for the switch throughout the year. According to the COO, the demand for the Nintendo Switch is very strong. He pointed out that whenever a branch gets a restock, it gets sold out just within hours, reported Venture Beat.
Because of this insistent demand from fans, Bartel predicts that Gamestop will probably be going after the supply for the entire year, says IGN. The general notion that the game will be available after the dust settles after the launch is quite the opposite of what the gaming store believes. Gamestop believes that the hybrid console stock will be more elusive as the holiday shopping season gets near.
Meanwhile, Gamestop senior director of merchandising Eric Bright was all praises for the Nintendo Switch. He was quoted saying that the hybrid console is one of the strongest and most successful launches for a video game console over the years. The Senior Director promised as well that retailers will continue replenishing stocks of the Switch.
