Previously surfaced reports implied that Google was hard at works on two new smartphones i.e. the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL, bearing codenames Muskie and Walleye, respectively. Now, it looks like a third handset could be in the offing as well.
The third smartphone is codenamed 'Taimen' and it reportedly sports a larger display size. Although this might not be the search giant's first smartphone featuring a large screen size, it's code-name itself indicates that it will be a bigger phone. For those unaware, Taimen is a type of large fish.
It can be recalled that Google's last big screen device was the 2014's Nexus 6, which was codenamed Shamu. Interestingly, the codenames of other smartphones have also been inspired by animals of the sea. For instance, the Nexus 6P was referred as Angler, while the Nexus 5 was codenamed hammerhead.
Unnamed sources told DroidLife that the project is not same as the Pixel 2; in fact, there's a possibility this could be a completely newfangled product. There's also hearsay that Google could be on the verge of marking its foray into the tablet market. Lining with this, it's highly likely that Google might come out with a smartphone that's as big as the LG G6. However, it remains to be seen whether the rumored device will be a phone or a tablet.
While details are hard to come by at the moment, it looks like Google is prepping multiple models of the Pixel 2; however, the tech firm has kept details about its upcoming devices under wraps. Adding to the dearth of details, the Pixel 2 has not been subject to leaks.
Despite the lack of an official announcement; however, a report from 9To5Google suggests Google will follow in the footsteps of Apple and oust the headphone jack from the Pixel 2. The publication cites undisclosed internal documentation that hint at the elimination of the 3.5mm headphone jack from upcoming Pixel 2 smartphone.
There's word floating around indicating that Google might introduce a budget phone dubbed, Pixel 2B. Nothing is set in stone yet; however, more concrete details are likely to surface sooner rather than later. Watch this space for more news and updates regarding the Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL and other upcoming Google smartphones.
