Lenovo's Moto G5 is slated to hit the store shelves in India on March 15 and the smartphone could be going toe-to-toe with a slew of other devices in the same tier from leading handset makers such as Xiaomi, Samsung and Nokia as Nokia 6, Redmi Note 4 and the Galaxy A5 are scheduled to launch around the same time.

But if recently surfaced reports are anything to go by, Lenovo is ready for the contest. In addition to packing an array of awe-inspiring specs and jaw-dropping features, Lenovo has reportedly prepped the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus for the release of Android 8.0 in near future.

Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus are the newest members of Motorola's highly lauded Moto G clan, which has undergone a radical overhaul as far as specs, features and physical built are concerned. With a cosmetic appearance that surpasses their predecessors, the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus smartphones boast a premium metal finish. Both the G5 and the G5 Plus bear a striking resemblance to the Moto Z family, according to TheVerge.

The Moto G5 handsets run Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. It's worth noting that Motorola has a reputation of rolling out latest Android version to their smartphones without wasting too much time. Taking this into consideration, some optimistic tech pundits believe Lenovo could be gearing up the Moto G5 and G5 Plus for Android 8.0, but the Beijing-based tech firm has neither confirmed nor denied this rumor until now.

A Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 will be firing up the Moto G5, while it's Plus variant will be powered by a Snapdragon 625, both paired with either 2GB or 4GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card. The Moto G5 packs a 2800 mAh battery whereas, the Moto G5 Plus comes with a robust 3000 mAh battery, both removable but much to the dismay of tech buffs, these batteries don't support wireless charging.

Unlike its precursors, the Moto G5 sports a 5.2-inch screen display (1080 x 1920 pixels). But that's not all; the newfangled Moto G handset comes with a fingerprint scanner, which according to IndiaToday is another point of difference as the Moto G4 did not include one.

Thanks to the Moto G5's metal finish, which is coupled with an aluminum back plate, the device offers a premium experience without burning a hole in consumers' pockets. Both Moto G5 and G5 Plus are slated to arrive in India on March 15 and the devices will be up for grabs exclusively on Flipkart.
