If rumors running rampant online are anything to go by, Samsung will be taking the wraps off its long-rumored successors of the Galaxy S7 and the ill-fated Note 7 this year. Aside from that, the South Korean handset maker is reportedly hard at works on a line of the foldable flagship-grade device dubbed as, the Galaxy X.
While details about the veiled, top-secret Galaxy X are hard to come by, the rumor mill has been churning all sorts of speculations around the device. Breaking with tradition, the Galaxy X is expected to be Samsung's most audacious smartphone in years.
In line with this, Samsung has officially trademarked the Galaxy X moniker, according to GSM Arena. Apparently, there will be a couple of handsets that would hit the store shelves under the cryptic Galaxy X line -- the SM-X9000 Galaxy X1 and the SM-X9050 X1+. If this comes to fruition, the Galaxy X would be up for grabs with two configurations i.e. a basic model and a larger phablet-sized variant of the regular model.
Although smartphones that can transform into tablets are not too farfetched, the Galaxy X might not arrive at least for a couple of more years. For the moment, it is just safe to say that the Galaxy X would be a one-of-a-kind smartphone.
Samsung Galaxy X Release Date, Specifications & Features
The Samsung Galaxy X smartphone is likely to feature specs that are identical to the company's top-tier devices, according to KnowYourMobile. The Galaxy X is highly likely to sport Super AMOLED display, especially taking into consideration that Samsung has already unveiled its foldable AMOLED panels.
Moreover, the Galaxy X's foldable display is likely to split in the middle with the help of a hinge. Using the said hinge, the device would fold just like the clamshell mobile phones of the yesteryears.
Under the hood, the Galaxy X smartphone is likely to pack the best Samsung could offer. In other words, the Galaxy X could come bearing internals identical to the looming Galaxy S8.
That being said, the Galaxy X could either be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC or the company's own Exynos 8995 processor. These processors are likely to be coupled with a colossal memory, most probably somewhere in the 4GB - 6GB RAM range.
In the photography front, Samsung is expected to equip the Galaxy X with great-quality mobile cameras. Since even Samsung's midrange devices sport capable sensors; the rumored Galaxy X would most likely come with an overwhelming camera setup as well.
Nevertheless, the Galaxy X is not likely to be spared from flaws. With the device's foldable design, the space allocated for the device's battery is quite restricted. However, Samsung could employ a stacked battery setup to increase the available space in the device's frame. This would enable Samsung to accommodate a decent-sized battery pack in the foldable Galaxy X smartphone.
Despite the lack of an official announcement, there's hearsay that the device could hit the store shelves either in Q3 or Q4 this year. More details about the purported Galaxy X device are likely to surface in near future. Stay tuned in here for more updates!
