A section of gamers have criticized the lack of end-game content in Diablo 3. After reaching the maximum level of 60, players simply replay the same content on a harder difficulty, which means that players reach the maximum level before completing all the difficulties. That changed recently, as Blizzard announced a new "Paragon" system in the 1.04 update.

After reaching level 60, experience earned counts towards Paragon levels.

"To support the new system, Nephalem Valor (NV) will now also provide a 15 percent experience bonus per stack, applicable toward Paragon levels," Game Director Jay Wilson revealed in the blog post. NV is a buff -- and a major new system in Diablo 3 -- that is only available to level 60 players.

Reaching Paragon level 1 will take players roughly the same amount of time it took to get from level 59 to 60, "and the experience requirement will rise from there".

A hundred levels are available, with stats Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, and Vitality improvements along with a 3 percent Magic Find increase and a 3 percent Gold Find increase per level.

To prevent abuse of the percentage increases for Magic Find and Gold Find, they are capped at 300 percent. That is achieved by reaching Paragon level 100 without Magic Find gear. "Eventually, once you hit Paragon level 100, you'll have the freedom to completely focus every slot on stats that help your character kill stuff faster and stay alive longer," added Blizzard.

Players can also display a border around the character's face, which becomes increasingly elaborate as the character's Paragon level increases. This is similar to Call of Duty's ranking system and its increasing collection of emblems.

The update is good news after Diablo 3 developers went public on Facebook to criticize series creator David Brevik, causing fans to quickly publicize the news. A community manager followed the news by calling out fans overreacting to a developer most had never met in real life.
