While many are taking to social media, particularly Twitter, to offer reviews of Big Sean's album "I Decided" as it hit the airwaves February 3, commentaries wouldn't be complete without evaluating the featured guest, Eminem. Slim Shady's feature on Big Sean's new album is a collaboration for the ages -- something that Big Sean himself defines as "a crazy surprise."
The "Bounce Back" rapper discusses his highly anticipated song with Eminem, "No Favors," and why he wanted to join up with the hip-hop icon after their 2014 alliance "Detroit vs. Everybody." "'Detroit Vs. Everybody' means a lot to me, that's just not a song or a clothing line, that's a mentality. People from Detroit, we carry that on our backs," Sean told MTV News.
The "One Man Can Change The World" rapper names Kanye West, The Notorious B.I.G., J Dilla and Eminem as his influences. The rapper also expressed that he's eyeing to "make a statement" with this release and broke down some of the recording processes behind the record, including Eminem's "No Favors" cameo.
The Story Behind The Roc-A-Fella Chain
The Detroit-bred rapper, on Friday visited Angie Martinez at Power 105.1 to talk about "I Decided," the infamous Eminem feature on "No Favors" and his rise to become one of the biggest artists in the hip hop world right now. Big Sean, 28, also took some time to explain why Jay Z gave him an original Roc-A-Fella Records logo chain, saying that Jay gave his project the final listen and seal of approval.
Sean revealed to Angie on the 14-minute interview on "The Angie Martinez Show" how he got the icy chain, which he still seemed stunned by. "Jay Z gave me the Roc-A-Fella chain, the big boy," said Sean with a wide smile, while going into detail on the discussion. "He told me, 'You earned it.' He gave it to me and said, 'You earned it,'" writes HIPHOPDX.
"I Decided" is a fantastic album and Big Sean continues to impress and grow, and express dedication. Long-time fans love the depth on the album, saying he's the real deal -- and that he is. Check out the interview in the video below.
