"The Last of Us 2" trailer sparked a number of theories on the Internet surrounding the sequel's plot. While the game's official storyline has yet to be unveiled, creative director Neil Druckmann shared the process of creating the sequel, including possible introduction of new characters and the game's political stance.

"The Last of Us Part 2" is currently in development, but Naughty Dog recently released a trailer to the game's highly anticipated sequel. While the said trailer sparked a flurry of theories and speculations among players, creative director Neil Druckmann shared in an interview that they came up with different stories and characters in the process of creating the sequel, reports Cinema Blend.

While "The Last of Us 2" will feature the return of Ellie and Joel, with the former being the main protagonist, Druckmann admitted that they considered creating new characters for the sequel. There was also the question of whether the voice actors would be back for "TLOU 2" or not.

"I'd probably reconsider the story at that point," he said of his reaction should the original voice actors refuse to return. "They are Joel and Ellie to me."

Druckmann also refused a request from a fan who wanted "The Last of Us 2" to be free from any political stance. According to Attack of the Fanboy, Druckmann insisted that he cannot allow the sequel to be that way since writers often get their inspiration from their own points of view.

Druckmann explained in a tweet that the ending to "The Last of Us" was based on his own views on politics, so fans should expect to see more of that in the upcoming sequel. Not much is known about "TLOU 2," but there are theories that Joel may already be dead.

"The Last of Us 2" trailer featured some hints that may be taken as a sign of Joel's death. This may explain why the upcoming sequel will feature hate and Ellie's revenge as its main themes.
