Sony proudly announced that it has already released 60 million units of PlayStation 4. From the day it was launched, the console has reached this interesting figure on sales, like selling hot cakes.
For the most recent financial earnings report of the company, Sony revealed this good news. This is a part of the tech giant's fourth fiscal quarter, which ended last March 31. PlayStation 4 sold 6.2 million units during the holiday season last year and it had a 53.4 million sales all over the world and the momentum of the gaming console seems like getting even higher. This is because Sony shipped 2.9 million units of PlayStation 4 during the first three months of this year and it only means that the company shipped 600,000 more units than what it had during the first quarter of 2016, reported Wccftech.
Sony was able to ship 20 million units of PlayStation 4 during the FY2016. This is quite an increase from FY2015, in that year the company shipped 17.7 million PS4 units. According to Kenichiro Yoshida, Chief Financial Officer of Sony, during the financial earnings call of the company, stated that the PlayStation 4 is in its harvest phase. Gamespot said that he expounded this by saying that it has been three and a half years since PS4 was launched. Sony expected a decrease in unit sales by 18 million year-on-year but there are scheduled launch for some major software titles, and the company believes it is in the harvest phase of the platform.
He also said that the PS4 Pro console keeps on selling well. Yoshida added that the PS VR and PS4 Pro are still selling well. It is a clear elaboration of the company's achievement in launching its latest products in FY2016. Both of the gaming consoles went on sale last year and made the fans, even more, hyped up to own one, says Polygon. Since November 2013, the PlayStation 4 has been in the market and the gamers demand it continues to be strong until now. During the launch day of PS4, one million units were sold in the US alone. However, the PlayStation 3 has just sold more or less 86 million units from its launch in November 2006 until December of 2015.
