"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" would be the last and final title for Wii U as confirmed by Nintendo and this would be a sad case for Wii U fans but even then, as Nintendo Switch's arrival is just around the corner, Zelda producer has teased that there will be a next installment in the series for the Nintendo Switch. Franchise producer Eiji Aonuma said that the new game will happen to maximize the Switch's unique abilities.

"I haven't been able to fully use all of the new features of the system," Aonuma told the Daily Star. "There could be the possibility of another Zelda on Nintendo Switch." Although he was not specific on the next Zelda installment for the Switch, it still sounds that he certainly has plans.

He went on to say that the core element of the Zelda gameplay would be the same where the main character and more characters that players encounter in the game and learning things as the character develop. He further explained that they would keep all these elements and then find out how they can expand the game.

At E3 2016, Aonuma also expressed his desire in taking Zelda into a different approach when "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" won the Best of Show Award and said that the next Zelda installment could be a multiplayer game. He told IGN that he wants to take what he had learned from "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" and try to combine all those learning points into another multiplayer Zelda game.

"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" will be released along with Nintendo Switch on March 3 and it will also be available on Wii U. The Switch costs $300 and Nintendo hopes that the console's uniqueness would bring the company's gaming prominence back following the loss of the Wii U sales.
