Wii U games console was first launched in 2012 and it appears that this is the end of life of the console as Nintendo recently said that "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" is the company's last game for it. The console has struggled to keep up with the commercial success of the original Wii.

"From a first-party standpoint, there's no new development coming after the launch of the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime told Polygon. "We really are at the end of life for Wii U." The "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" was announced in 2013 and has had multiple delays but is finally coming out for Wii U and Nintendo Switch on March 3.

Fils-Aime also said that the Wii U titles such as "Mario Kart" and "Splatoon" would still be sold at retail stores as well as on the Nintendo eShop although they haven't discussed if there will be sunsetting online services for the device. He previously implied that they were about to end the production of the device but Nintendo will maintain offering online services to Wii U players and the third-party publishers might still want to launch software for the console, reports BBC.

The original Wii instantly became the best-selling home console of Nintendo and this is why the company wanted to happen the same way to Wii U to no avail. There were consumers that got confused with the Wii U name as it sounds like it's an accessory or a better version of the original console and some also said that the company has misrepresented the marketing with confusing messages on what the new console can do.

The console works as a second screen in some games to display inventory or maps although some third-party games supported it accurately. It can also be used to play without a TV provided that players are home and close to the console while playing a game that supports it.
