Gaming consoles always feature parental controls for years as this is vital to parents who want their kids protected from any uncensored contents on games. Nintendo Switch is one of these consoles but it will pioneer its parental controls by moving it to a smartphone app.

The Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app, which will be available on both Android and iOs will enable parents to set time limits on their kids' usage of the system, set restrictions on game ratings and collect data on how kids are spending their time on playing. As for setting time limits, the parental controls app can be used by parents especially when they're not at home.

Players are notified on-screen that their time is up and if they ignore it, the app will notify parents the amount of time their kids spent beyond the limit and parents can easily put the Switch to sleep mode, which means it will quickly stop the progress of the gameplay. Sorry, kids!

Engadget reports that the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app will produce a monthly report of how long the kids spent playing certain games and online play, as well as social media features, can also be disabled. The app also allows parents to set different time limits basing the days of the week, enables extra time to set on weekends to let kids play longer during the weekend.

However, the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls are all applied to the console as a whole and not to individual users or even games. This can be complicated in a household with more than one child with different ages or even at separating playtime between the parents and kids, according to Slash Gear.

Nintendo Switch is set for release on March 3 on a $299 price point without titles that come with it. Nintendo executive Reggie Fils-Aime explained that they want people to decide what title they want to buy rather than including the system with bundled games.
